New SWSA Distinguished Dissertation Award announced

During the last International Semantic Web Conference in Nara, Japan, the Semantic Web Science Association (SWSA) awarded a SWSA Distinguished Service Award posthumously to the late Dieter Fensel, in recognition of his extraordinary lifetime contributions to the global Semantic Web community.

Dieter Fensel was a pioneering researcher whose work on ontologies, knowledge representation, and semantic technologies has deeply influenced the field. The award honours his decades of scholarship, mentoring of young researchers and leadership in bridging research and practical applications, therefore underscoring his lasting legacy in building a more semantic, intelligent Web.

The SWSA board and wider community extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues and continue to celebrate his memory and impact.
